Web 2.0 Twitter

You could use twitter in the system instead of a book replacement sit down meeting, but I still don't think it will replace sitting around a table, hearing the tone of voice and the facial expression of a speaker . However, when gas hit $15 a gallon Scott may choose to have groups use this.

Web 2.0 Library thing

Outside of the time spent reading, this was the easiest assignment to do. I'm a staunch believer in pen and paper , but I can easily see how many patrons would enjoy this for listing their books and finding recommendations.

Staff could use it for listing storytime books by subject. Books could be recommend as "If you liked this" based on the "common man" reviews. However, after listing several books by Dan Silva, I had a recommendation for "The Cool Jew the ultimate guide to the tribe." People will need to monitor their recommendations that they receive.

Web 2.0 RSS Feeds

After reading articles on this subject and talking to my husband , who has feeds at work, this is a great idea. It would be great to have feeds for your favorite (or necessary ) topics. However, if your power goes out you can't access them, where you could still read a hard copy of LJ. I prefer to read the hard copy before most things on a computer. Yes I'm a stodgy Dinosaur but I also don't read books on line. I prefer to be comfortable, which a seat at a computer isn't.

I can see the patrons and staff using feed to outlets they consider important: news, Sports Illustrated swim suit edition, college information, legislative information, information that would affect how libraries are run ,etc.

Web 2.0 Flicker

First my thanks to Richard H. for showing me the flickr site and what can be done with it. I found it interesting and fun to browse through . The library could use flickr to show staff things that are going on at HDQ, new equipment, workshops, etc.

I can see patrons using flickr to post pictures so distant family members can see them. Or to help organize that old shoe box full of photos where no one know who is in the picture.

Web 2.0 Explorations 1 &2

I was not looking forward to this assignment but reading is easy.

Blogging was easy to set up but I had difficulty getting the posts in the right place. For the patrons this might be a good way to 'talk' with a group. Generally the blogs I've come across are those reporting side effects of drugs. I've found them interesting but have to judge each on the verifiable information.

In the library I can see this being used for a committee, but only if it is limited to the system. One could use it to network with other systems.

Web 2.0 Office tools

December 2005
Happy Holidays everyone!
We have battled through all kinds of adversity this past year, perhaps one of the most difficult we have experienced as a family. But there was a lot of good news and positive developments that bode well for a much better 2006.

--- To my readers: This old msg is a word file I'm trying to add to my blog. Google docs. made this very easy.

I tried the zoho assignment and could get tables, bullets, colored fonts and backgrounds. I could never get the image I selected to paste in to the document. I tried 5 different photos with 5 different urls and always received an error message. Not sure if I was doing something wrong or if the site was down. This was frustrating.
